Understanding ones own environment is a great undertaking. Photographers, in general,
make images reflecting their environment. The images in Flâneur represent my observations
of my environments. Living in the suburbs, while also traveling to the city, allowed for quite a
bit of exploration. Susan Sontag refers to the flâneur, in her essay On Photography, as
..."an armed version of the solitary walker reconnoitering, stalking, cruising the urban inferno.”
This point of view is critical to understanding how the photographer and the environment relate.
